Substituted Sugars
One or more -OH groups can be replaced by other atoms or groups leading to substituted sugars.
Common naturally aoocuring substitutents are:
-H deoxy sugars
-NH
2
amino sugars (the N atom can be further substituted, for example, an amide, -NHC(=O)CH
3
- R branched chain sugars e.g. CH
2
OH or -CH
3
