Chapter 20: Carboxylic Acid Derivatives. Nucleophilic Acyl Substitution
Interconversion Reactions of Amides
Reaction type: Nucleophilic Acyl Substitution
Summary
Amides are the least reactive of the neutral carboxylic acid derivatives.
The only interconversion reaction that amides undergo is hydrolysis back to the parent carboxylic acid and the amine.
Reagents : Strong acid (
e.g.
H
2
SO
4
) or strong base (
e.g.
NaOH) / heat.
