Chapter 5: Pushing Curly Arrows |
Fundamental Principles:
There are a few important ideas to have before starting to exlpore curly arrows...
1. Electrostatics : From introductory physics : Columb's law = opposite charges attract
2. Lewis structures : From introductory chemistry : Lewis structures show us the locations of the valence electrons (bonding or non-bonding)
3. Line diagrams : From organic chemistry, each line represents a covalent bond which is a pair of electrons. Get into the habit of showing lone pairs, especially on N and O atoms
4. Formal charges : From introductory chemistry : always show them and track them (more on this later)
