Part 6: SYNTHESIS
Answers to the synthesis problems are
given below. These answers
have
been selected as they are short but there are probably
other reasonable / alternative solutions ..... Of course they are based
on the reactions covered in the Fall semester !
Note : Radical chlorination of the 2-butene is the best answer here as
it will give a very high yield of the required chloride since there is
only one type of H and it corresponds to a resonance stabilised radical
intermediate (an allylic radical).
